Died and gone to Nevern

Red handed Geocoin

World Diabetes Day Geocoin

Nevern-a (regular cache)

After quite a long summer hiatus, a string of business trips has perked things up. This time, a scoot around norther Pembs. I hid a cache on the Ceredigion - Pembrokeshire - Carmarthenshire boundary, and found an easy cache in woodland at Nevern, near Fishguard, with attendant geocoins.

More geocoffee, anyone?

Stopped whilst on a jog past one of my caches in Burry Port to pick up a cute geocoffee coin. I first saw one of these in the darkness on an autumn cache and dash near Bridgend. Nice to see one in the light of day so could appreciate the nice design!

A brief, 2-day business trip to Ceredigion provided the opportunity to clear up some long-overdue unfinished business. Lately the geocaching (and blogging) has flatlined due to a lack of opportunity but this hiatus was more than made up for with this enjoyable trip.

My first achievement on this trip was the completion of the Dylan Thomas series of caches, in New Quay. I started this series, placed by Twm y Tonnau, in November last year, after the leaving bash at my old place of employment. I completed another cache in a frantic January tour of Ceredigion. However, three caches remained to be completed, including one which I had searched for on the previous visits, without success. On this occasion, all three caches were found easily - including the "Under Milk Wood" cache, a micro which had turned into a nemesis for me, and the series was completed. The "Frozen Bone" geocoin, pictured left, was found in Plas Llanina cache.

Next up, the following day, was my first LETTERBOX HYBRID cache!!! Letterbox Hybrids are similar to regular caches, but that they are influenced by the game of "letterboxing", which pre-dates geocaching. letterboxing is particularly popular in Dartmoor, but the main exponents of the "letterbox" cache in Wales are the "Dysinni Squeezeboxers", based in Meirionnydd. The main difference between letterbox caches and regular geocaches is that the former type contain a stamp, which can be used to take an imprint. Well, after an unsucessful reccie a couple of weeks ago on hols, I found the "Talyllyn pass cache" after 15 mins of rooting around at the second attempt. I'll be scanning my imprint when get a moment.

My final stop on the way home was for "The last Welsh Dragon", another "nemesis", again hidden by Twm y tonnau, in Newcastle Emlyn. I had solved all the clues for this multicache during "Operation Gwbert" last year, however had failed to find the final cache on two separate occasions. This time I got lucky - incredibly the large ammo box was parked next to where I had crouched in the dark during a previos search in the winter.
